MNDF Coast Guard has retrieved a satellite balloon from Google’s ‘Loon Project’ after it was found in Maldivian waters.

MNDF said that report of the device came in around 10:08 am today and that its officers from MNDF Southern Area had retrieved the balloon.

It also said that the device has since been handed over to the Google Team here in the Maldives.

Google’s Loon is building a new layer of the connectivity ecosystem in the stratosphere.

Google had said that from the early days of testing weather balloons, to designing and building custom launch equipment, to providing connectivity to people after natural disasters and that it is committed to tackling the challenge of extending internet access worldwide.
