Health Protection Agency HPA says a 67-year-old local man had died from COVID-19 in the Maldives earlier today.

In a tweet, HPA confirmed that today at 7:00 am, the man admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility HMF had died while under treatment.

He is the second person to die from COVID-19 in the country this month and the 36th person to succumb to the global pandemic since April.

A total of 30 locals and 6 foreigners have now died in the pandemic in the Maldives.

Meanwhile, HPA confirmed last night that the total number of positive cases reported in the country has now reached 11,154 yesterday with 41 new cases.

HPA had said that the new cases include 34 locals and 7 foreigners with 34 reported in the Greater Male’ Area and 7 cases confirmed from islands and resorts.

HPA said that the active cases in the country remained at 1117 and that 384 people are currently under isolation.

HPA added that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has dropped to 49 in the Maldives.

The Agency said that 20 islands in the country have active cases at the moment. It noted that 19 resorts also have active cases including 15 tourists and 25 staff.
