The Maldives and China have held talks to explore economic cooperation between the two countries post COVID-19.

In the talks held at the Foreign Ministry today, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid and Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer represented the Maldives. While China was represented by the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Zhang Lizhong.

In a tweet, about the talks, Minister Shahid said that both he and Finance Minister Ameer had had very productive discussions with the Chinese Ambassador to explore economic cooperation in a post-COVID-19 environment.

He went on to say that China continues to extend to us it’s strong support in the economic recovery process and other areas of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong said via twitter that he had a good meeting with both the ministers on the cooperative response on post-COVID economic recovery. He added that China is committed to more support and fruitful co-op to benefit more people.

The government of China as well as private Chinese companies have donated supplies and equipment on multiple occasions as the Maldives continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
