Authorities in Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadedhoo says 44 individuals who had tested positive for COVID-19 from the island has now recovered from the illness.
The island’s Health Center said that a total of 45 individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 from the island and out of that 44 individuals have now recovered.
It also confirmed that only one individual remained as an active case of COVID-19 on the island.
The Health Center also said that authorities have taken 462 samples and that results are out for 343 samples. It said that 74 samples are currently pending in the laboratory.
Currently the only island under monitoring, Hoadehdhoo came to the attention of public health authorities after two unrelated cases of COVID-19 surfaced from the island. These two individuals presented at the island’s flu clinic and had no known connections to the other positive cases reported from the island who had been under home quarantine.
Authorities rushed to conduct contact tracing for the two individuals and identified over 100 contacts for the positive. Officials have also confirmed that more than 40 contacts have now tested positive for COVID-19 and that last contact was tested positive on the 24th of last month.
While the Health Emergency Operations Center continues to investigate the origin of the local transmission confirmed on the island, it said that the local transmission had only a single source and that there was no evidence that the individuals under home quarantine had violated quarantine guidelines.
