Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says 53 out of the 128 expatriate workers that went to Addu City to build Police training school there had tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking at the latest press briefing, Dr. Nazla said 128 workers had traveled to Addu City on the 13th of this month and had been under quarantine upon arrival in the City as per the current Health Protection Agency HPA guidelines.
She confirmed that all 128 had completed the mandatory 14-days quarantine and 53 of them had tested positive for COVID-19 up until 9 pm last night.
Addu City is currently hosting 55 active cases of COVID-19 as this includes the 53 expatriate workers in Addu Gan and a local under home quarantine also in Gan. In Addu Hulhudhoo a foreigner who was tested positive for COVID-19 is currently under quarantine.
HPA had said that 22 islands across the country are hosting 87 active cases of COVID-19 at the moment and that only Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo is currently under monitoring after authorities confirmed the local transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic on the island.
HPA also reported that 10,291 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic reached its shores back in March. While 9108 has recovered from the illness, 34 individuals have succumbed to the pandemic in the Maldives since April.
