MP for Henveiru Hulhangu constituency and MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef has confirmed that his mother had tested positive for COVID-19.
In a tweet, the MP said that his mother has now been taken to an isolation facility. MP Latheef said that he was under home quarantine as he is a direct contact of his mother.
The MP added that his tests had come back negative for COVID-19.
Recently, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had also tested positive for COVID-19 which has infected over 10000 people here in the Maldives. Ex-President Maumoon had since recovered from the serious illness although former MP for Raa Atoll constituency Ismail Zakkariya had succumbed to the illness earlier in the month.
He is one of the 34 people who have died from the illness in the Maldives since April. This includes 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
Local authorities had also said that confirmed cases of COVID-19 include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
