Health Protection Agency HPA has placed Haa Dhaalu Atoll Kulhudhufushi and Nolhivaram under monitoring.
This was confirmed by Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq last night.
She said that both islands were placed under monitoring after a crew on a boat from Kulhudufushi tested positive for COVID-19. She said the crew member was tested for the pandemic after showing COVID-19 like symptoms.
Dr. Nazla also said both islands were now under monitoring to complete contact tracing of the positive crew.
Meanwhile, the Kulhudhfushi council said in a statement that while the island is currently under monitoring, no one can enter or leave the island with the approval from the public health authorities.
Nolhivaram council also issued a statement to that effect and said that entry and exit into the island were currently banned until HPA gives the all-clear.
The two islands join Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo under HPA monitoring as the COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives surpassed 10000 yesterday.
Hoadehdhoo had been under monitoring since the 3rd of this month with authorities confirming a local transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic there with 45 now tested positive for COVID-19 from the island.
