Health Protection Agency HPA says a 90-year-old has died from COVID-19 in the Maldives last night.
In a tweet, HPA said that last night at 01:25 am, a 90-year-old Maldivian man admitted at Hulhumale' Medical Facility HMF has passed away from COVID-19 while under treatment for the illness.
He is the 6th person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives this month and the 34th person to succumb to the illness in the country since April.
Earlier this month, a 79-year-old local man, a 60-year-old local man, a 58-year-old local woman, and a 79-year-old local man had died from COVID-19 while under treatment.
Also, HPA had declared that a 58-year-old who had died at Kulhudufushi Regional Hospital had also died from the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 9724 people has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives while 8261 had now recovered from the illness.
HPA has confirmed that case numbers have decreased over the last couple of weeks and but conceded that it's too early to say that the number of positives per day is consistently declining.
HPA also said that it is too early to ease the restrictive measures taken against the pandemic and that everyone must continue following safety measures diligently for case numbers to come down and for the country to slow the spread of COVID-19.
