Maldives National Defense Force MNDF says a fishing vessel with 18 onboard has run aground on a reef off the island of Kaafu Maafushi tonight.
MNDF said the report of a vessel named ‘Huvaa-16’ running aground on a reef near Maafushi came in around 08:30 pm and the report had said that 18 people were aboard the fishing vessel.
MNDF said that its Male’ Area Coastguard was on the scene.
But MNDF is yet to confirm whether any person was injured in the accident.
This comes after a landing craft ran aground on a reef off Shaviyani Nalandhoo on the 14th of this month. MNDF said 140ft landing craft was carrying 7 people on board when it ran aground and that it had been traveling from Male’ to Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhufushi.
MNDF had also said that no person was injured in the incident.
