Authorities confirm that 23 individuals previously tested positive for COVID-19 in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Hoadehdhoo have recovered from the illness today.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC said 23 out of 44 recoveries recorded today were from Hoadehdhoo.

Officials have confirmed before that four others from the island have also recovered from the illness and that they had tested positive for COVID-19 while under home quarantine following travels to the Male’ Area.

Authorities have said that 17 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 remained home quarantined in the island and said they are unrelated to the previous four cases as all who tested positive from the cluster are individuals with no travel history to the Male’ Area.

Health Protection Agency HPA had taken a total of 344 random samples from the island. While 44 samples have tested positive, 250 samples came back negative and 50 samples are pending in the laboratory.

Hoadehdhoo along with the neighboring Madaveli has been under HPA monitoring since the 3rd of this month as two individuals who presented at the flu clinic in Hoadehdhoo tested positive for COVID-19.

Authorities have also confirmed local transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic on the island of Hoadedhoo.

Although no COVID-19 has been reported from Madaveli, the island was placed under monitoring as it is connected to Hoadedhoo via a causeway.
