Health Protection Agency HPA says 74 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives on Friday.

In its latest update, HPA said 70 cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 4 cases were confirmed from the islands.

HPA said the new cases included 37 locals and 37 foreigners.

The new cases have taken the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives since March to 9568.

Meanwhile, another 44 recovered from the illness on Friday in the country. This has taken the total recoveries in the country to 8077.

HPA reported that the number of active cases in the country has increased from 1422 to 1452 in the last 24 hours.

However, the number of individuals under isolation has now reduced from 684 to 642 since Thursday.

HPA said that 2 more COVID-19 patients were hospitalized since yesterday taking the current total to 106.

The Agency said 21 inhabited islands in the country are currently hosting 48 active cases of COVID-19 with Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadedhoo and Madaveli the only two islands currently under monitoring.

HPA also said that 27 resorts across the country have active cases of COVID-19 including 18 tourists and 39 staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 33 lives here in the Maldives with 27 locals among those succumbing to the illness. Authorities have confirmed that 6 foreigners have also died from COVID-19 in the Maldives.
