Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation says the extension of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport is set to commence next January.
The Ministry made the announcement after the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula met with the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Sunjay Sudhir today.
It said in the meeting the status of Transport and Aviation related projects that are supported by the Indian government were highlighted in the meeting
The Ministry said that the groundbreaking for the Hanimaadhoo airport projects is tabled for November of this year.
The Ministry had said that during the meeting held today, Minister Nahula and High Commissioner Sudhir had discussions on the ferry service between India and the Maldives that will operationalize this month, strengthening connectivity and adding value to the economy of the Maldives.
The extension of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport is part of the infrastructure projects undertaken as part of the infrastructure development projects to be completed with the aid from the Indian line of credit granted to the Maldives.
The renovation and extension of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport is a pledge made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his presidential campaign and the government had announced the project on multiple occasions.
