Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom says he has recovered from COVID-19 and has been released home today.

In a tweet, the former President said that he had arrived back home after being admitted to Dharumavantha hospital for COVID-19 treatment.

At the age of 82, the ex-President is considered a high-risk patient of the COVID-19 pandemic which had claimed 32 lives here in the Maldives and most of them above the age of 80.

Maumoon announced that he was tested positive for COVID-19 via twitter on the 25th of August having tested for the pandemic after falling sick with a fever.

Many well-wishers had reached out via social media platforms and prayed for a speedy recovery for the former president including President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and other political leaders.
