Authorities have placed 26 individuals under home quarantine in Noonu Atoll Manadhoo after a man from the island tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
Speaking to ‘The Press’ Manager at Noonu Atoll Hospital Ismail Shafeeq said that authorities have now completed the contact tracing for the positive case reported on Friday. He said initially 11 were placed under quarantine after being identified as contacts of the positive individual but authorities have now placed 26 under home quarantine with the conclusion of the contact tracing.
Shafeeq said none of the quarantined individuals are showing symptoms of the COVID-19 pandemic and that while some were quarantined at guesthouses on the island others were quarantined in their own homes.
Yesterday, the Health Protection Agency has confirmed that a Maldivian man home quarantined in Manadhoo had tested positive for COVID-19.
Sources from the island had said that the man had violated home quarantine rules and had gone out into the public while under quarantine.
HPA had placed the island under monitoring and it joins Gaafu Alifu Hoadehdhoo and Madaveli as the three islands currently under monitoring.
HPA said 28 islands across the country are hosting active cases of COVID-19. It also said 25 resorts in the country have active cases of COVID-19 including 13 tourists and 42 staff.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 31 lives in the Maldives including 25 locals and 6 foreigners.
