The government receives a donation of essential personal protective equipment and other medical supplies from the Shanghai Construction Group (SCG) of the People’s Republic of China, towards the ongoing efforts in the Maldives to combat the spread of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Foreign Ministry said that at a ceremony held at the Ministry today, the donation was received by Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid.
On behalf of Shanghai Construction Group, SCG Project Manager Li Huanbin and the Representative of SCG in the Maldives Shi Wanchun, handed over the donation.
The ceremony was also attended by the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Zhang Lizhong.
The Ministry said that the donation includes essential personal protective equipment, namely, 20,000 medical masks, 10,000 pairs of medical gloves, and 500 PPEs. This donation will be an added boost to increase the capacity of frontline workers in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony today, Foreign Minister Shahid emphasized the warm relations between Maldives and China, and mentioned that China continues to be one of the most important international partners of the Maldives
. Minister Shahid in his remarks, said that the Maldives will strive to strengthen its existing bilateral ties with China and to work together internationally not only to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also towards the economic recovery efforts as well.
On behalf of the Government of Maldives, Foreign Minister Shahid expressed his gratitude to the Shanghai Construction Group and to the Government and the people of China for the continued support and goodwill extended to the people and the Government of Maldives at this challenging time.
