The Cabinet has today deliberated on the safety protocols and measures in place to control community spread of Covid-19 in Male' and the atolls.

The President's Office said that the Cabinet was briefed on the latest updates regarding safety protocols and infection rates in Male' City and other islands where Covid-19 has been detected.

It said that cabinet ministers were also comprehensively briefed regarding areas with increased risk of spread, and their inhabitants' access to medical services for other illnesses; and on the measures being taken to address the disease's spread, by strengthening existing health facilities and the introduction of new safety measures.

The President's Office also stated that the Cabinet also deliberated on the steps being taken to ensure the Maldives' safety for tourists. They were also presented with details regarding the Ministry of Tourism's efforts to promote the Maldives to an international audience and increase tourist arrivals.

A total of 8741 cases of COVID-19 has been reported in the country with the pandemic claiming 29 lives in the Maldives since April.
