Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says the authorities have identified 111 contacts for the 21 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 from Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo.
Speaking at the latest news briefing hosted by the HEOC, Dr. Nazla said that authorities were in the midst of identifying the contacts of the 21 individuals in Hoadehdhoo and so far, they have identified 111 contacts.
Dr. Nazla noted that these 111 individuals include 60 who are currently showing symptoms of the pandemic. She also said the contacts include 6 individuals above 50 years of age and 2 infants below 1 year.
She assured that all 111 contacts had been quarantined and that authorities were currently testing the contacts for COVID-19.
She also said authorities were still investigating how a community outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic reached both Hoadehdhoo and the neighboring Madevali.
Dr. Nazla explained that 4 individuals under home quarantine in Hoadehdhoo had tested positive for COVID-19 on the 3rd of this month and the next day 2 unrelated cases of COVID-19 were reported from the island.
She said since then on the 5th of this month, 19 cases were reported from Hoadehdhoo and that all 19 cases related to 4 houses on the island.
Both Hoadehdhoo and Madaveli which is connected to Hoadehdhoo via a crossway are currently under monitoring.
