Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdullah Shamaal assures that the Maldives is not hosting armed forces from another country amid reports of armed Indians stationed in the country.

Speaking at a news conference today, Major General Shamaal said that there is no foreign military presence in the country. He said especially armed forces from another nation have not been stationed in the Maldives.

But he said the Maldives was always seeking aid in a humanitarian capacity and have requested for technical support.

His comments come after several people voiced concern on social media regarding the presence of armed Indian troops in the Maldives.

They have said that this would endanger the country’s sovereignty and compromise the country’s national security.

The opposition has been holding political activities against the so-called Indian invasion.
