Health Emergency Operation Center HEOC has confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 in Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo today.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ HEOC said the two individuals were tested positive from the island last night and that these cases had no relations to the other positive cases previously confirmed from the island.

HEOC said in light of this development it was now working to conduct random sampling in the island.

HEOC had confirmed that four others had tested positive for COVID-19 from the island before and that all four were tested having completed 14-days mandatory home quarantine.

The latest update from the Health Protection Agency HPA said that 39 islands are hosting active cases of COVID-19 across the country with Shaviyani Feevah still under monitoring as HPA work to rule out a potential community spread in the island.

HPA also confirmed that 20 resorts are also hosting active cases of COVID-19 including 16 tourists and 45 staff.

A total of 8281 people have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since March with the pandemic claiming 29 lives since April.
