Health Protection Agency HPA says 137 individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives today.

In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 137 new cases 129 were reported from the Greater Male’ Area and that 8 were confirmed from the islands.

HPA also said the new cases included 96 locals and 41 foreigners.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives to 8140.

Meanwhile, HPA said that 40 islands across the country are hosting 91 active cases of COVID-19. It also said that Shaviyani Feevah remained under monitoring after a COVID-19 case was reported from the island yesterday.

HPA added that 16 resorts are also hosting active cases of COVID-19 and that they include 15 tourists and 33 staff.

Yesterday, the government announced that all inbound tourists and short-time visitors must present a negative PCR certificate on arrival in the Maldives. It also said that the PCR test must be taken 72 hours prior to departure to the Maldives.
