Finance Ministry says the government has issued MVR 33.2 million as allowance to frontline workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking a news conference held by the Ministry, Chief Financial Budget Executive Saruvash Adam said the government had approved MVR 33.5 million as frontline workers allowance.

He said that out of the total approved allowance MVR 300,000 remained unreleased as the Ministry was in the process of verifying the account numbers of several workers. He assured that the allowances would be released once the verification process is completed.

Saruvash said the allowance released was for the period from 7th March to 15th July and the allowance that is yet to released include those to be given to MNDF and Police personal.

He added that the delay in issuing allowances to the security forces is due to the revision of the guideline on issuing such funds to members of the security forces.

This comes after many frontline workers had complaint about the delay in the promised allowance.
