Gaaf Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo on Saturday, 29 August 2020, has reported the first active from the island. Authorities have placed the island under quarantine following this.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) reports the island was brought under monitoring after a boat crewman tested positive for Covid-19 after consulting at the island's hospital. He was symptomatic at the time of consultation.

As per standard protocol by Health Protection Agency (HPA), islands reporting active cases are immediately placed under monitoring. Following this contact tracing is conducted to assess the degree of spread, after which all contacts related to the cluster are placed in quarantine.

Moreover, authorities lift off the monitoring status after the contacts complete their quarantine period and post test results.

On Saturday, Kulhudhuffushi City, regarded as the northern-hub was also placed under monitoring after one of the island's locals who was transferred to Male' City for medical attention, tested positive for the viral contagion.

Authorities confirm 32 local islands outside of Greater Male' Region currently with active cases along with 15 tourist resorts while Saturday's development will increase the total by two.
