Regarded as the northern-hub, Haa Dhaal atoll Kulhudhuffushi, has been placed under monitoring by health authorities as of Saturday, 29 August 2020.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) made confirmation of the fresh development with regards to the Covid-19 outbreak across islands. The authority confirms the island came under monitoring after a local from Kulhudhuffushi who was transported to Male' City for medical attention had tested positive for the disease.

Meanwhile, the standard protocol by Health Protection Agency (HPA) is place islands with discovery of new active cases under monitoring until further notice. Following discovery of active cases in the islands, contact tracing is conducted to assess the spread of the viral disease after which the contacts are placed under quarantine.

Authorities usually lift off monitoring status from islands after all contacts complete their quarantine period.

Moreover, health authorities confirm a total of 32 islands have been reported with active cases; from across the country along with 15 tourist resorts.

As of 29 August, the total number of active cases have reached 2,568 out of which 192 have been hospitalized while 1,426 remain in various isolation facilities.

Maldives reports a total of 7,469 positive cases inclusive of both recoveries and active cases, while total recoveries have increased to 4,873.

So far a total of 28 individuals have died in Maldives from Covid-19 while authorities on Saturday confirmed the youngest posthumous Covid-19 positive case; of a 21 year old local woman.
