The Progressive Coalition, the country's prime opposition movement, has strongly condemned lawmaker Abdulla Jabir's comments against former President of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
In a statement from the coalition, it had strongly condemned the parliamentarian's recent act of placing heavy allegations and use of profanity in an audio message to the former Maldives head of state and his son Ghassan Maumoon.
Moreover, the coalition wished for a speedy recovery of the former President, who on Tuesday, 25 August, announced he tested positive for Covid-19.
Following Gayoom's confirmation of testing positive for the viral contagion, MP Jabir contacted his son Ghassan Maumoon and spoke harshly. Ghassan Maumoon had shared clips of their audio conversation on popular micro-blogging site Twitter, following their phone call.
In their call, Jabir made demands to return the plot registration of Kinbigasdhoshuge back to him.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, Gayoom confirmed of his condition following which he was admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital. Meanwhile, his family has concurred of the development.
Meanwhile, the former Maldives President and a precursor to the multi-party democracy, Gayoom has been receiving several messages of admiration and well wishes from his supporters and other members of public, all wishing him a speedy recovery.
