President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reached out to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom after the latter had tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet, the President said his thoughts and prayers were with President Maumoon and prayed for a speedy recovery for the former president.

Meanwhile, the family of the former president had said today that President Maumoon was feeling fine and that he was showing mild symptoms of the pandemic.

President Maumoon confirmed his positive result last night via Twitter and prayed for a speedy recovery for all the sick people in the country and himself.

At the age of 82, the former President is a high-risk COVID-19 patient with most of those who lost their lives to the pandemic here in the Maldives being above 80 years of age.

The pandemic has claimed 28 lives in the Maldives including 22 locals and 6 foreigners.
