Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 135 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the number of positive cases surpass 7000 in the Maldives.

In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 135 new cases, 126 cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area and that the islands reported 9 new cases of COVID-19.

HPA clarified that the new cases include 109 Maldivians, 15 Bangladeshis, 8 Indians, 2 Egyptians, and 1 Nepalese.

The total number of positive cases reported in the country now stands at 7047.

With the surge of new cases, authorities have banned vehicular activities from 8 pm to 5 am in the Greater Male’ Area while a curfew has been imposed from 10 pm to 5 am in the capital city.

Also, it is now mandatory to wear facemasks in the public in the greater Male’ Area and any other islands with active cases of COVID-19.

HPA had confirmed that 32 islands and 10 resorts are currently hosting active cases of COVID-19.
