Leading medical practitioner Dr Sheena Moosa claims current condition in Maldives suggests 'high-time' for a second lockdown across country.

Dr Sheena's comments came during her interview on RaajjeTV on Sunday afternoon, stating the current alarming spike of positive cases is indicative of the spread of Covid-19. Moreover, she notes that a second lockdown is the only justificable action in terms of a health and safety approach.

However she poses questions over whether such a course of action is ideal in terms of socio-economic aspects.

Furthermore Dr Sheena made her argument clear noting that decisions taken with health and safety as top priority may pose setbacks or challenges in terms of social or economic aspects. She further adds taking actions exclusively based on health aspects defeats the purpose of fully curbing the spread of the viral disease.

Moreover she claims the control of Covid-19 has been challenged by the relative public disobedience, as many are found in violation of the regulations or guidelines set by health authorities.

Dr Sheena further claims that only half of the country's population were showing adherence towards decisions made by regulatory authorities.

The medical practitioner further claims a second lockdown will significantly assist in the control of the viral spread, but will become a major setback for the already regressing economy. She adds that the strategies for the coming days or months should be broader in its effect and must include all the factors.
