Health Emergency Operations Center Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says 62 percent of the COVID-19 beds in the Greater Male’ Area are now occupied.
In a tweet, Dr. Nazla shared a graph on occupied COVID-19 beds in the greater Male’ Area which showed that at 62 percent, the situation has now been classified as at Alert Level 2.
The graph showed that Alert Level 1 as having 30 percent to 59 percent COVID-19 bed occupancy while Alert Level 2 is having a COVID-19 bed occupancy of 60 percent to 79 percent.
Dr. Nazla added that in order to protect each other’s loved ones who are at high risk, everyone need to work together and act now.
HPA epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said last night that out of the 2521 active cases of COVID-19, the authorities have hospitalized 169 individuals for further treatment.
Briefing local media on the latest updates from the COVID-19 crisis, Dr. Afzal said out of the 169 individuals 10 COVID-19 patients have been admitted at the ICU for critical treatment. He confirmed that out of the 10, 5 were on ventilator support.
Dr. Afzal noted that while 1419 individuals remain under isolation, 4113 individuals have now recovered from the virus in the Maldives.
Authorities are working around the clock to deter the rampant pandemic that has claimed 26 lives in the country, 9 of them in August alone.
