Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 146 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives as the country braces for more cases in the coming weeks.

In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 146 cases reported today, 144 were confirmed from the Greater Male’ Area while 2 cases were reported from the islands.

HPA said the new cases include 117 Maldivians, 21 Bangladeshis, 2 Indians, 5 Sri Lankans, and 1 Filipino national.

With this, the total number of positive cases now stands at 6225.

HPA also said 20 islands and 12 resorts are hosting cases of COVID-19 across the country.

It listed the islands as Haa Alifu Filladhoo, Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo, Haa Dhaalu Naavaidhoo, Haa Dhaalu Kurinbi, Noonu Miladhoo, Baa Kamadhoo, Baa kudarikilu, Raa Hulhudhufaaru, Lhvaiyani Naifaru, Kaafu Thulusdhoo, Kaafu Himmafushi, Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili, Faafu Nilandhoo, Vaavu Keyodhoo, Vaavu Thinadhoo, Thaa Madifushi, Thaa Vilufushi, Fuvahmulah City and Hitadhoo & Feydhoo of Addu City.

HPA also said that in the 12 resorts 7 tourists and 13 staff have been listed as active cases of COVID-19.
