Health Protection Agency says 19 islands and 13 resorts are hosting active cases of COVID-19 across the country as authorities look to contain the growing pandemic.

In a tweet, HPA listed the 19 islands from 13 atolls that are currently hosting active cases of COVID-19.

This includes Haa Alifu Filladhoo, Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo, Haa Dhaalu Naavaidhoo, Haa Dhaalu Kurinbi, Noonu Miladhoo, Baa Kamadhoo, Baa kudarikilu, Raa Hulhudhufaaru, Lhvaiyani Naifaru, Kaafu Thulusdhoo, Kaafu Himmafushi, Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili, Faafu Nilandhoo, V Keyodhoo, Thaa Madifushi, Thaa Vilufushi, Fuvahmulah City and Hitadhoo & Feydhoo of Addu City.

Although HPA did not identify the 13 resorts with active cases of COVID-19, it did say that the cases include 8 tourists and 13 resort staff.

HPA confirmed 170 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday alone with 139 Maldivians testing positive in a day.

The country has now recorded 6079 new cases of COVID-19 although 3648 have now recovered from the illness in the country.

A total of 24 people have succumbed to the pandemic here in the Maldives including 19 locals and 5 foreigners.
