Health Protection Agency HPA epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal says 9 of the hospitalized COVID-19 patients have been admitted to the ICU.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Afzal said that authorities have hospitalized 146 individuals with COVID-19 for further treatment and that 9 of those are currently being treated at the ICU.

He further clarified that the 3 of the 9 were currently on ventilator support.

HPA reported that yesterday that a record 198 people have recovered from the pandemic here in the Maldives taking the total number of recoveries to a promising 3208.

The Agency said with the new recoveries the number of active cases of COVID-19 has now fallen from 2540 t0 2449 despite the fact that 107 new cases were reported in the Maldives yesterday.

HPA said that 1518 remained under isolation at state manned facilities across the country.

The country has recorded a total of 5679 positive cases of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 22 lives here in the Maldives including 17 locals and 5 foreigners.
