Health Emergency Operation Center has confirmed 6 new cases of COVID-19 from 5 islands in 5 separate atolls today.

HEOC said two individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 in Raa Atoll Hulhudhufaaru taking the total number of positive cases reported from the island to 4.

It said that last night a 44-year-old local woman had tested positive for COVID-19 while today a 40-year-old local man tested positive for the pandemic.

HEOC confirmed that both were tested after having completed their mandatory 14-days home quarantine after traveling from Male’ Area.

The island is currently listed as having active cases of COVID-19 by the Health Protection Agency.

HEOC clarified that a 6-year-old boy in Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili had tested positive for COVID-19 today while a 4-year-old boy in Faafu Nilandhoo had also tested positive for the pandemic.

HEOC confirmed that both samples were taken after the children had completed the mandatory 14-days home quarantine following travels to the Male’ Area.

This is the 5th positive case from Nilandhoo which is also listed as hosting an active case of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Noonu Miladhoo reported its first case of COVID-19 today after a 22-year-old local woman under home quarantine tested positive for the pandemic. HEOC said the man was tested having completed his mandatory 14-days home quarantine.

HEOC also confirmed a COVID-19 case from Kaafu Himmafushi where a 29-year-old local man under home quarantine tested positive for the illness. HEOC confirmed that the person was tested after completing the mandatory 14-days home quarantine upon traveling back from Male’ Area.

Health Protection Agency HPA had confirmed that a total of 5679 people has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives while 3208 individuals have recovered from the illness in the country.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 22 lives here in the Maldives including 17 locals and 5 foreigners.

The locals who succumbed to the pandemic include 8 men and 9 women.

The five foreigners who died include 4 Bangladeshi men and 1 Filipino man.
