Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 143 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives as the number of new cases of the pandemic keeps on increasing.
In a tweet, HPA reported that out of the 143 new cases reported today 140 were reported in the Greater Male’ Area and 3 cases were reported from the islands.
It also said that the new cases included 87 locals, 40 Bangladeshis, 10 Indians, 3 Nepalese, 2 Sri Lankans, and 1 Egyptian national.
Today’s new cases have taken the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to a staggering 5366.
Meanwhile, HPA confirmed that 35 people had recovered from the illness in the country today and that this has taken the total number of recoveries to a promising 2884.
But the country has 2461 active cases of COVID-19 and HPA confirmed that 150 individuals were hospitalized for further treatment.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 21 lives in the Maldives with authorities confirms two deaths in the last 48 hours.
Yesterday a 67-year-old local man died from COVID-19 after being taken to IGMH ER with breathing difficulties while today a 77-year-old local woman died while being treated for the illness at Hulhumale Medical Facility HMF.
The 21 people who have passed away from COVID-19 include 16 locals and 5 foreigners.
