Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 129 new cases of COVID-19 in the country today.
In a tweet, HPA said that the 129 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 today include 93 Maldivians, 26 Bangladeshis, 9 Indians, and 1 Nepalese national.
It said that out of the 129 new cases, 128 cases were reported in the Greater Male’ Area and that only one case of COVID-19 was confirmed from the islands.
HPA had confirmed that with today’s cases the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has now reached 4898.
Meanwhile, HPA also noted that 37 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the country today. This takes the total recoveries in the country to a promising 2791.
HPA highlighted that there are currently 2088 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives with 144 hospitalized for further treatment.
It said that 1481 individuals have been placed under isolation at various facilities across the country.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 19 lives in the Maldives including 14 locals and 5 foreigners. Most of the locals who died of the pandemic were elderly patients with underlying health conditions. The foreigners who passed away from the illness in the Maldives include 4 Bangladeshi nationals and 1 Filipino national.
