Health Minister Abdullah Ameen says the government has no plans to lock down the country and close its borders amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in recent days.

Speaking on Raaje TV’s ‘Fala Suruhee’ program, Minister Ameen said it is important that all adhere to the guidelines set by the authorities to further quell the pandemic.

Ameen said that at this juncture it is not important to fully lock down the country and that the border was reopened to avoid a lockdown.

He also noted that the dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic is still not behind us and remains ever-present.

Minister Ameen said as the cases continue to rise, the country’s health sector might not be able to cope with the number of cases.

The country closed down its borders last March after the COVID-19 pandemic reached its shores.

It reopened its borders with safety measures on the 15th of this month with over 1000 tourists arriving in the country since then.
