The firm said its attorneys Shafeea Riza and Noorbaan Fahmy would represent the victim.

The legal representation of the victim went on to say that it has officially communicated to Maldives Police Service, Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, Peoples' Majlis, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and National Integrity Commission that from this day onwards, all communications with the victim must be made in their presence and inclusive of them as her lawyers.

The firm also requested all media to seek permission prior to publishing any narration whatsoever, in any form (broadcasting, online, print) with regard to the case.

It warned that any publication on any platform by any media, made without prior consent, will be subject to legal action accordingly.

In this regard, the firm addressed the press statement published by Mendhuru Online on 22 July 2020 and clarified that Azima Shakoor is unknown to the victim .

The firm said that the victim has not, at any point, made any contact with Azima Shakoor.

It said that it is clear that Mendhuru Online has made a false allegation quoting the victim and demanded that Mendhuru Online remove said statement in which the publication refers to its client, effective immediately.

The firm went on to say that given the prevalence of sexual harassment and sexual offences in the Maldives, as well as the lack of public confidence in the protection systems, it has offered its legal counsel to the victim on a pro bono basis, to ensure she is fully informed of her rights and that she is assured proper legal representation
