State Trading Organization STO continues to test its staff for COVID-19 via serology as the number of cases of COVID-19 continues to rise in the country.

STO began to test its staff for COVID-19 via serology yesterday and continued to test today as well.

The serology test would determine whether antibodies that fight the COVID-19 virus are present in a persons blood which would indicate whether or not the person had contracted the illness.

Antibodies are usually present in patients who have contracted the virus and have since recovered from the illness.

While the STO is proactively testing its staff for COVID-19, the country’s main private hospital ADK has announced earlier that it offer free COVID-19 antibodies test to frontline workers battling the pandemic in the country.

The hospital said that it would conduct 3000 such tests for frontline workers.

The number of positive cases in the country has surpassed 3000 yesterday with 3044 new cases confirmed in the Maldives. Health Protection Agency had said that currently there are 617 active cases of COVID-19 in the country with nearly 2400 recoveries also reported in the Maldives.

Fifteen people have died of COVID-19 in the Maldives including 10 locals and 5 foreigners.
