The Islamic Ministry confirms that the three mosques closed down for disinfection yesterday have now been re-opened.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ Islamic Ministry Media Official Ismail Afrah said the mosques opened for fajr (dawn) prayers today after disinfection and congregational prayers have resumed at these mosques.

The three mosques were closed and disinfected after it was revealed that an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 had visited all three mosques.

The three mosques include Masjidul Sultaan Hassan Izzudeen, Masjidul Afeefudeen and Masjidul Sultaan Muhammad Imaadudeen.

The government had banned congregational prayers in the capital city in March after the discovery of a COVID-19 case in the country.

Communal prayers were allowed to resume on the first of this month after the government implemented the third phase of its lockdown ease.

Officials have called on mosque-goers to maintain social distance and personal hygiene to deter the spread of the pandemic.
