The Parliament Committee on Human Rights and Gender has called on the house to dismiss two members of Human Rights Commission HRMC today citing their incompetency to perform their duties.

The committee asked the house to dismiss HRCM Vice President Mohamed Zahid and HRMC member Moosa Ali Kaleyfaanu.

The committee called for the dismissal of the members saying that they had given false information to the committee and cited their incompetence to perform the responsibilities pertaining to their posts.

It highlighted that HRCM had failed to thoroughly investigate several cases submitted to the commission including that of the brutal murder of blogger Yaamin Rasheed and the mysterious disappearance of reporter Ahmed Rilwan.

The Committee also noted an allegation of corruption against HRCM member Moosa Ali Kaleyfaanu from his days serving at the National Disaster Management Center.

The Committees call to dismiss these members came after President of HRCM Aimnath Inaas and member Aishath Afreed resigned from their post earlier this month.
