Health Protection Agency HPA confirms that a 42-year-old Maldivian man died of COVID-19 today.

He is the youngest Maldivian to die of COVID-19.

In a tweet, HPA said the man passed away while under treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor, DH11.

HPA also confirmed that this takes the number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 15.

Earlier, 9 other Maldivians and 5 Foreigners had passed away because of the highly contagious illness.

In addition to the man who passed away today, 4 other local men and 5 local women have died COVID-19 in the country. While 4 Bangladeshis and 1 Filippino man has also died of COVID-19 in the Maldives.

The Maldives has reported 2831 cases of COVID-19 in the country with over 480 active cases of the illness. The last 7 days saw 250 Maldivians tested positive for COVID-19 with the new number of cases reported at an alarmingly high rate.

The HPA has also confirmed that 19 individuals recovered from the illness in the last 24 hours in the Maldives taking the total number of recovered to a promising 2321.
