Several positive cases of COVID-19 have emerged from Rehendi School in Hulhumale’ today.
Speaking to ‘The Press’ Deputy Director General at the Health Ministry Thasleema Usman said that several positive cases have been confirmed from the school.
But she did not divulge how many were tested positive or who was tested positive from the school.
A local online news had reported that two students from Grades 9 and 10 as well as a teacher from the school had tested positive for COVID-19. It also reported that their positive results came back today and that the school was currently contact tracing the positive individuals.
While the third phase of lockdown ease has seen schools reopen for upper grades, several staffs from schools have since tested positive for the highly contagious illness. This includes a senior staff from Huravee School, a staff from Dharumavantha, a staff from Ghiyasuddin School, and one from Imaadudeen school.
But this is the first time reports have emerged of students being tested positive for COVID-19 since schools reopened.
Authorities have confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has now climbed to 2831.
