Health Emergency Operation Center HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq says two nurses from IGMH and Tree Top hospital have tested positive for COVID-19 as the number of clusters of cases keeps increasing in the country.
During the news conference to update the local media on the latest developments of the fight against COVID-19, Dr. Nazla clarified that yesterday’s positive cases included a nurse working at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital IGMH.
She explained that the new case is related to the existing cluster from the country’s main hospital that has now widened to 16 cases of COVID-19. This includes 7 staff, 7 patients, and 2 relatives of patients.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nazla also said that a nurse working for Tree Top Hospital has also tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. She said that the contact tracing for the nurse was currently underway.
A staff from the hospital had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and 9 other staff was isolated following the discovery. Health Protection Agency had assured that the positive individual had not come in contact with any patient admitted to the hospital.
A total of 2553 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives with over 2000 now recovered from the highly contagious illness.
Maldives has recorded 13 COVID-19 deaths including 8 locals and 5 foreigners.
