Newly established Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC says a senior management staff of Huravee School has tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

Speaking to the media, HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said that three people have been identified as direct contacts of the positive individual.

She also said that the three staff has been placed under quarantine.

Dr. Nazla added that contact tracing was still ongoing and that the school has been closed temporarily for decontamination.

Huravee School has the capacity to accommodate 1000 students.

Schools in the Maldives re-opened just last week after they were shut down in March of this due to the COVID-19 crisis.

While in the islands, students of grades 1-12 are attending sessions only students from the upper grades (9-12) are attending school in the Male’ area when the infection remains widespread.
