The suspects of raping an expatriate female onboard a berthed Safari vessel at Hulhumale', have been released.
Maldives Police Service confirm of receiving the incident report sometime around 05:00hrs of Thursday dawn, previous week.
Following the report, authorities appreheneded two local males both aged around 39 years. Both suspects were apprehended from the site of the crime. However, police on Saturday revealed both suspects were released as the authority did not find substantial evidence or reason to keep them in remand.
Although the two have been released, police confirm the investigation on the incident was still underway.
While the latest incident of rape involves a foreigner, some are already accusing the woman of questionable moral practices though nothing concrete about her profile has been substantiated.
The case comes reported at a time the locals became enraged with the news of an 11 year old minor and possible victim of grooming, raped inside a guesthouse venue in Maldives capital Male' City during the state imposed lockdown.
The prime suspect of the said case, Anees Hilmy, Haa Alif Baarah, was arrested by authorities on 12 June. Subsequently Maldives Criminal Court have ordered to remand him until the end of his trial.
