Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Thursday, 25 June, confirms the discovery of 17 additional cases of Covid-19 and 9 more recoveries.

While Thursday's confirmed positive cases were disclosed by HPA, the total number of positive cases from Maldives reported so far increased to 2,277 inclusive of both recoveries and active cases. The positive cases of Thursday include 10 Bangladeshis and 7 locals.

Meanwhile, the number of positive cases reported so far include 801 locals, 1,186 Bangladeshis.

Moreover, over 80% of the patients who contracted the viral contagion have since made recoveries from the disease while the number of active cases remain at 416 as of Thursday.

So far the island nation reports only 8 deaths related to the viral disease. The relatively less death cases related to the disease also lists Maldives among countries with the lowest mortality rates associated with Covid-19.

At a time when it is uncertain when the current trend of positive cases will decline and the spread of the disease will be entirely curbed, Maldives government earlier announced on reopening borders scheduled for 15 July.

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed during Wednesday's press conference further declared international flights will land coinciding with the border reopening.
