President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today appointed Abdulla Shareef as the Commissioner-General of the Maldives Customs Service.
The new Commissioner General was presented his letter of appointment at a special ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.
Supreme Court Justice, Uza. Aisha Sujoon Mohamed, presided over the oath-taking component of the ceremony.
Abdulla Shareef had previously been serving as the Deputy Commissioner at Customs since the 8th of July. He had taken over the post of Acting Commissioner-General of Customs after the untimely death of the former Commissioner General of Customs Ahmed Nooman back in April.
Sources close to Nooman had said that he had fought a hard battle against a kidney illness for a long time and that he died while seeking medical treatment for the alignment in Bengaluru India.
Abdullah Shareef has served the Customs Service for over 27 years.
Following his new appointment, he will be serving at the rank of a State Minister.
