Maldives Police Services has warned the public to adhere to the guidelines given by Health Protection and prioritize the wellbeing of the people while a state of public health emergency is declared in the country.
The warning from police came as many are planning to hold protests and strikes in Male’ area to voice concern over several issues in the country.
Even though the government has eased the measures taken against the Covid-19 pandemic; HPA still prohibits gatherings of more than 3 people in public spaces.
Police had said that some individuals were planning to hold a gathering in violation of these guidelines and urged the individuals to prioritize public safety at this juncture.
Opposition coalition PPM has said that it had been planning to hold protests demanding the rights of the citizens and that these strikes would be held nationwide.
Also, a local rights advocacy group named ‘Navaanavai’ is also planning to hold a strike in front of the Parliament building on Monday to empower the public on its political, social, and economic rights.
