Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed confirms that three police officers have been dismissed and one other demoted yesterday for allegedly assaulting a civilian.
In a tweet, CP Hameed said that the alleged assault of the individual took place on the 5th of August 2019. He said that the Disciplinary Board at the police took the decision to dismiss the three officers and demote the third one yesterday.
CP Hameed went onto say that this demonstrated the posture for police reform and that police reform is achievable. He said that it is in everyone’s interest and can be approached with civility and that ridiculing such work is unnecessary.
Sharing more about the Police Force, CP said that 34 percent of the workforce at MPS holds academic qualifications above A’levels. He explained that there are 220 officers and staff who hold postgraduate degrees.
He highlighted that it is universally understood that a wide range of policing skills are best learned on the job and that higher academic qualification is secondary.
