National Emergency Operations Center NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says an 83-year old who had recently tested positive for Covid-19 could have complications due to the illness.
Speaking to the media, Mabrook said the 83-year local suffered from hypertension and was taking medication for a long-term illness. Mabrook said the person could have potential complications brought on by Covid-19.
This 83-year-old local man tested positive for Covid-19 last Saturday while a 92-year-old local man also tested positive for Covid-19 on that day.
Health Protection Agency dashboard on Covid-19 shows that the oldest individuals to contract the illness are two 92-year old local men. This includes case 2014 from Saturday and case 1547 confirmed on the 28th of May.
The number of individuals above 65 years of age who tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives includes 3 Italians and 35 Maldivians.
Out of the 35 Maldivians, 14 were women while 21 were men. The data shows that the 16 elderly patients of Covid-19 have recovered from the illness in the Maldives while 15 locals above 65 years of age are still seeking treatment for Covid-19. Four locals above 80-years of age have died of Covid-19 in the Maldives including two men and two women.
