Random samples from a total of 11 officers from Male' and Hulhumale' jails were collected by health authorities to test for Covid-19.

According to Maldives Correctional Services, the samples were collected with the assistance of National Emergency Operations Center for testing.

Earlier, similar random samples from officers were collected from both Asseyri Jail at Kaafu atoll Himmafushi and Maafushi jail. During the said extraction, samples from cellmates were collected as well.

In May 2020, a total of 37 random samples from Asseyri Jail were collected, all of which had tested negative for the virus. Meanwhile the jail was brought under HPA's monitoring.

The 38 random samples collected from Maafushi jail had all tested negative as well.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) is currently taking random samples from individuals who do not have known connection or made contact with previously reported positive cases.
